The holiday season is upon us so it must be that time of year again! The time when WWE trots out the TLC (Tables, Ladders, and Chairs) stipulation to pop a buy rate! I went 4 for 7 last month, and nearly had a 6 out of 7 night. Guess I'm getting good at this. Or WWE is getting way too predictable... Also, I've added my buddy Victor into the fold as he is providing his picks as well! So here we go with the TLC preview!
#1 Contender's Match- Divas Championship- Santa's Little Helpers Battle Royal.
I was interested in this match until AJ Lee was pulled from it. I was kind of hoping AJ would get a shot a the Title. As for this match, expect divas into very skimpy Mrs. Claus gear botching moves all the while someone in the crowd chants "Ho! Ho! Ho!"
Prediction- Natalya wins.
#1 Contenders Match- Tag Team Championship- Table Match:
Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara vs. Team Rhodes Scholars
Very impressive recovery by Cody Rhodes; equally unimpressive mustache. Seriously, who the hell told him that was a good idea? For fans of Rey & Sin Cara, this doesn't look too promising. Rhodes Scholars was quickly hot-shotted right back into the Tag Title picture because other than the Champs, no other tag team in WWE is that good right now.
Our Prediction- Team Rhodes Scholars wins.
Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. R-Truth
Because fans clammored for a rematch (rolls eyes) here we go again! I don't get why this match needed a sequel. Nothing particularly interesting or memorable happened between these two at Survivor Series. Cesaro claims to be a "Superior Champion of an inferior country." That might be the most boring catchphrase since Lance Storm busted out "If I can be serious for a moment." Both are t-shirt worthy, huh? Either way, I see nothing that suggests R-Truth is leaving Brooklyn with a heavier suitcase.
Predicition- Antonio Cesaro retains.
Victor's Pick- R-Truth wins the Title.
Wade Barrett vs. Kofi Kingston (c)
Absolutely intrigued by this one. I am a big fan of Barrett. Love the look, enjoy watching his aggressiveness in the ring. Kofi is always one step from reaching that next level it seems. This match could go a long way in establishing which of these 2 is going to be the future of the company. I think big things are in store for Barrett in 2013. I don't think the IC Title is going to help him, but it is going to help Kofi.
Our Prediction- Kofi Kingston retains.
Sheamus vs. Big Show (c)
This stipulation has been trotted out at each TLC PPV, and I have to ask. What the hell is a Chairs match? Is only a steel chair legal for use as a weapon? If so, then if Big Show were to pull out a lead pipe and beat the snot out of Sheamus would he be DQ'ed? See, these are the plot holes that piss off your "WWE Universe" Vince! Anyway, Sheamus beat the stuffing out of Show after his DQ win at Survivor Series last month. I expect Show to be out for vengeance. I know if some pasty red head attacked me with a chair I'd be ticked... and probably in a hospital, but I digress. Big Show destroyed a chair on Raw with his bare hands, which is good news for the steel chair making industry. Big Show has looked surprisingly weak as World Champion. He needs a decisive victory of Sheamus to prove he's legit. And this is the time to get it.
My Prediction- Big Show retains.
Victor's Pick- Sheamus wins the Title.
The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns) vs. Ryback & Tag Team Champions Team Hell No (Kane & Daniel Bryan)
First let me say it sucks that WWE Champion CM Punk suffered a knee injury and could not compete in the original TLC match for the Title. That said, Punk is scheduled to be at the event and I expect this will be the match he gets involved in. The Shield has become one of the most interesting groups in recent memory, targeting Ryback, Hell No, Randy Orton, & The Miz amongst others. I am absolutely sold on Dean Ambrose (as I mentioned on Twitter @PaulHcle). And Seth Rollins looks like a star in the making. The only weak link in Shield is Roman Reigns, and only because we simply don't know much about him. This match needs to serve 2 purposes. 1. Make Ryback look dominant. And 2. Make Shield look dangerous and unstoppable. This is where Hell No comes in. I expect Roman Reigns to hit that assisted Triple Powerbomb that The Shield has used on Daniel Bryan, through a table, possibly off a ladder. That's how Shield gets the win. Afterwards, Ryback grabs Reigns and powerbombs him through the announce table to send a message.
Our Prediction- The Shield wins.
John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler (MITB)
Am I the only one sick of the Vickie Guerrero GM angle? It doesn't help that Vince McMahon keeps showing up to help her create the most boring 10 minutes of tv each month on these past 2 months. This is Dolph Ziggler's time to shine. It can be argued that Dolph needs one more big win before he cashes in his Money in the Bank contract, and a win over Cena would be the final piece needed. I see Dolph pulling off at least 3 big spots in this match, and Cena will bust his ass to put over Ziggler.
Our Prediction- Dolph Ziggler retains.
One final note, I will be working on a wrestling awards post to be up at some point in 2012. We will celebrate the best (and worst) of wrestling in 2012. Any nominees & suggestions are welcome. So be watching for that, and as always...
One more final note. On behalf of myself & David Funk, I would like send our sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers to everyone in Newtown, Connecticut affected by the most unspeakable tragedy on Friday. Words are not enough and unfortunately it is all we have. It is times like these that we need to hug our loved ones tight and be thankful for the blessings we have been given.
For now, so long. (The New Year's Eve ball drop won't be the same without you, sir.)
