Since last time was so much fun, I thought let's do it again! So here we go with this month's WWE PPV preview. First, I was fortunate to attend the Tuesday Smackdown/Main Event/Saturday Morning Slam TV taping in Cleveland, Ohio. Great times were had, and I will likely be on tv this week thanks to great seats on the guard rail along the entry way. If it makes it to tv, I had a rather heated discussion with the guy in front of me about something really stupid, and did not realize the camera was on us during the discussion. Well, let's get to what you actually came to read about...
WWE Survivor Series
Bankers Life Fieldhouse
Not a bad job last month. I posted a record of 3-6 in my predictions, which my Cleveland Browns would be happy to have. This year is one of the "Big Four" PPV events in WWE, Survivor Series. This event has its roots in the Cleveland area, with the Richfield Coliseum hosting 3 times including the first 2 events and the former Gund Arena hosting in 2004. One of the draws of the event is the Traditional 5-on-5 elimination Tag Team Match. This match essentially turns into a Handicap match at various times throughout the match as eliminations occur. This PPV is also considered to be the de-facto start of WrestleMania season, as plans for the big event traditionally begin to take shape at this event. Let's see how the 26th annual Survivor Series is shaping up.
Pre-Show Tag Team Match:
Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd vs. 3MB (Heath Slater & Jinder Mahal)
This match will be on WWE.com & various social media sites. Maybe it's just me, but I like 3MB! It's a recockulous gimmick, but it's entertaining.
(EDIT: Originally, this match featured Zack Ryder & Santino Marella vs. 3MB, but was changed with no explanation on the Friday before the show. Either way, 3MB is winning this thing.)
Prediction- 3MB wins.
Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. R-Truth
I honestly don't know what the hell this is all about. I believe Truth took offense to Cesaro bad mouthing America. Not a lot of time was put into this feud, so I'm not going to far with this one.
Prediction- Antonio Cesaro retains.
Eve (c) vs. Kaitlyn
I'm trying to get the painful matches out of the way first, so please bare with me. Eve is quite annoying, and also stealing her gimmick from TNA Wrestling's Madison Rayne. Meanwhile Kaitlyn, who won NXT Season 3, is getting her first PPV shot at the title. I like Kaitlyn. But there's no way on this side of a frozen hell she's winning this match.
Prediction- Flush... er... Eve retains.
Traditional 5-on-5 Elimination Tag Team Match:
Team Foley (Randy Orton, Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston, Tag Team Champions Team Hell No, & The Miz) vs.
Team Ziggler (Captain- Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett, & Team Rhodes Scholars)
You may have heard by now that Cody Rhodes (one half of Rhodes Scholars) took a bad bump during the Tag Team Championship match on WWE Main Event. I saw the bump from my seats on the rail, and it was bad. When Kane went for a back drop, Cody didn't get enough rotation and landed on his side on his neck. It was cringe-worthy to say the least. Cody did not appear the rest of the night, including during a promo to open Smackdown between the two Survivor Series teams. It is unclear whether or not Cody Rhodes will be able to compete this Sunday. Hopefully, no significant injury occured.
(EDIT: Further updates have mentioned a strained shoulder & a concussion suffered by Cody Rhodes. It is looking like a match-time decision on whether or not Rhodes will compete at Survivor Series. His rumored replacement is Tensai, which is a severe downgrade. Hopefully, Cody is able to go Sunday.)
On to the match. I've debated back and forth on this since Miz was announced as the 5th man for Team Foley this past Monday night on Raw. It was pretty obvious in Cleveland he was the babyface, and not just because he's from the CLE. Orton, however, was working heel and even got boo'ed at the end of his match on Smackdown (trying not to spoil everything). Team Foley seems to put the fun in dysfunctional, but Ziggler appeared overly confident on Main Event & Smackdown. I think Del Rio causes friction on Team Ziggler after Kofi & Team Hell No are eliminated first. I see this as a 5 on 2 against Team Foley with Miz & Orton as the 2. Orton "RKOs" Damien Sandow and eliminates him. Orton then "RKOs" Cody (if applicable), but Miz blind tags in and gets the cover for the elimination. Orton & Miz argue but Wade Barrett & Del Rio attack them. That makes it 3 on 2. Ziggler gets eliminated next by Orton. Now it's 2 on 2. Miz gets a surprise roll up on Barrett. 2 on 1. Orton "RKOs" Del Rio & then "RKOs" Miz. Orton walks off to boos and is counted out. Miz throws his arm over Del Rio for the cover and picks up the win.
Prediction- Team Foley wins. Sole Survivor- The Miz
World Heavyweight Championship:
Big Show (c) vs. Sheamus
Sheamus is a beast. But Big Show is a giant. An angry giant. I don't see much money in Show as a long-term Champion, but he would make a good transistional Champion. Sheamus is hot-headed, and could easily lose control. That's why I'm picking Big Show to win by disqualification, when Sheamus ignores the referee's 5-count. Post match, Sheamus snaps! Sheamus beats the living crap out of Big Show, hitting not 1 but 2 Brouge Kicks. This is when Dolph Ziggler "cashes in" his Money in the Bank contract and wins the World Title! I know I said that last month, but trust me it's coming and it won't be long. This is the perfect opportunity to do it, and there are signs it is coming. Don't believe me? Watch Ziggler's promos on Main Event & Smackdown.
Prediction- Big Show wins by DQ.
WWE Championship- Triple Threat Match:
CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena vs. Ryback
I'm going to ignore the tasteless segment on Raw when Punk & Paul Heyman used Jerry "The King" Lawler's real life heart attack to get heat. It was a disgusting display, and whoever wrote that crap should be fired... out of a cannon.
I'm not a fan of this match. Cena's doing his thing in the AJ Scandal. If he does win the Title, wouldn't that completely undermine that entire angle? Ryback really should not be in Title matches. Each loss hurts his credibility as an ass-kicker. And Punk already has a date with The Rock at Royal Rumble in January to defend the title. It seems like this match was rushed to the table without forethought. Interestingly, Punk's WWE Championship reign will be 364 days at Survivor Series, having won the Title one year ago at this PPV from Alberto Del Rio. Will CM Punk reach 365 days? Yes.
Prediction- CM Punk retains.
Thanks everyone for reading. Enjoy your turkey and your family on Thanksgiving. And please, don't go out on Thanksgiving to go shopping. It isn't worth it. Be home with family and friends. I know I will be. I'll be back next month with TLC.
