On Labor Day of this year on my Oklahoma City mini-vacation, I decided to spend the day at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The experience was definitely better than I thought it would be.
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is located in Oklahoma City. It has the largest collection of Cowboy and Western Heritage artifacts and memorabilia in the world. More than 10 million visitors a year come to find out more about the history of the West.
There are several things to like about the museum. But for me, the best part is being able to walk in an old-style Western town like you see in the movies and shows such as Bonanza and famous John Wayne movies. The walk in a Western town is dark, but the detail and work they did for their visitors is amazing.
You'll even see artifacts from Wayne and other famous past Western legends - even former U.S. President Ronald Reagan. There are some areas of the tour that you CANNOT take pictures in. It is detailed on the map they give you when you begin the tour.
Anyway, here are the many pics I took of this very impressive facility. This is a must-see place if you ever come to OKC! Enjoy!
Still more pics to come on here including my tour of Fenway Park in Boston!

hi
YAY, this makes chop number 2! ;)
I'd love to go to a cowboy museum one day too! We don't have any such museums here of course so it looks like I have to go abroad for that purpose ha ha! Really awesome pics David and so many of them! :)
It's always fun to view all the pics, David. Thanks for sharing them. I heart the new lay out here. And oh! Thanks for wishing me well and for my fast recovery. Just got back from the hospital. Taking a little peek here then off to bed immediately. Can't do much till I am more stable.
Talk to you again soon!
All the Best,
LAINY
@Mariuca- FC1 again, and now you're on a roll! LOL! OKC is flooded with museums, and many that have never been there don't quite know just how many there are. I will be checking out the rest when I return, and I'll be coming back to this one, too. But yeah, if you want to see a Cowboy museum, this is the best one for ya!
@Lainy- FC2! Yeah, this place is loaded with stuff to do, and definitely a highlight of my trip. Glad you're okay and out of the hospital which is the most important thing at the moment. Best wishes, sweetie!
Oh no!! I missed FC!
This cowboy museum looks interesting! Would love to visit it! : )
Hi David! ;)
wow so many pics!! i wanna go to OKC! :D
@Foong- You still got FC3 which is good for another point. Yeah, this is a must-see in OKC!
@Monica- Yeah, I took a lot of pics, and could have taken more if not for some areas being restricted from taking them. I hope you can come to the USA one day!
it looks like a very interesting museum. i would love to see that place soon.
I can remember visiting that museum years ago, and it was indeed a fantastic experience. If you want some more, you should travel up the turnpike to Tulsa and go visit the Gilcrease Museum on the western side of town. The Will Rogers Museum is located a few miles farther east off of I-44 in Claremore, OK, and I think you would really enjoy visiting there, as well.
Thanks FishHawk for the comment and recommendations! I'm going to jot those down and keep in mind when I go back.
And yes, this place was one of the highlights of the trip!

@Shemah- Wow, I wasn't aware that you've been to OKC! My sister was born there and my brother and I attended elementary school in nearby Midwest City. Yes, the Cowboy Museum is a must see when and if you make it back here! It was definitely one of the highlights of the mini-trip to OKC. Thanks for the comment!
