Noblesse Obligue Award

What started as a bad week with my site has all the sudden turned out to be a splendid one for me. My good friend tripzibit from Indonesia generously gave me the Noblesse Obligue Award yesterday. This is the second time I've received an award this week by name, and both times, it came from someone outside the USA. Not to ever disrespect my American friends, but I consider it more of an honor that people outside my country are so respectful and appreciative of what is being done here. Thanks tripzibit, and as I've said to you before, this is why you are one of the best class acts on the internet and have become a good on-line friend of mine. OK, here's what the award is about.

This Award is presented to bloggers who display consistency in any one or a combination of these conditions:

1. The Blogger manifests exemplary attitude, respecting the nuances that pervades amongst different cultures and beliefs.
2. The Blog contents inspire; strives to encourage and offers solutions.
3. There is a clear purpose at the Blog; one that fosters a better understanding on Social, Political, Economic, the Arts, Culture and Sciences and Beliefs.
4. The Blog is refreshing and creative.
5. The Blogger promotes friendship and positive thinking.

The Blogger who receives this award will need to perform the following steps:

1. Create a Post with a mention and link to the person who presented the Noblesse Oblige Award.
2. The Award Conditions must be displayed at the Post.
3. Write a short article about what the Blog has thus far achieved – preferably citing one or older Post to support.
4. The Blogger must present the Noblesse Oblige Award in concurrence with the Award conditions.

As most of my friends here in the USA and Canada know, I started blogging on Sporting News. And like so many others had done, I wanted to start a site on my own so I went with several of them. After being overwhelmed by it, I decided to create one site with my own domain to where I could write about anything. My purpose is to write about anything I want while covering many topics with variety and creativity. It's been a struggle going into a new atmosphere to gain traffic, and it's something everyone else has to deal with as well starting out, too. Like Tripzibit on his site, by far the best move I've made with this blog is putting in a chatbox. I wanted to increase traffic with that, and it's worked. My blog has now been viewed in over 40 countries as a result, and my exposure internationally increases by the week. But more importantly than all that, I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the most professional and kind people you'll find on the internet in other countries. That has meant more to me than traffic. My goal is to be different and deliver the best entries I can each time I post while also providing something for just about every kind of viewer to enjoy. Whether it's personal, humor, sports, wrestling, history, creative insanity, or a way to inform, I'm grateful for the traffic I get from each and every single one of you across not only this country but around the world. Thank you.

Now this is the toughest part is picking who should get this award from me. I'm going to let everyone on my followers list accept this award. Those of you that have followed are a big reason why my blog continues its growth, so this one's for you. I do want to make mention of a couple of bloggers that are following me......

Casa de Boneca: You were one of my first international friends, and are one of the kindest bloggers around. Since you were generous in giving me the Premio Dardos Award, I'm returning the favor because you deserve this, too.
Aline C: I'm so happy for the good news you received, and may everything continue to go well for you. Here's another much deserved award because of how positive you have been with your whole ordeal.

So I hope all my followers accept this award on my behalf. Once again, thank you all for viewing and supporting my blog.

BWE Throwdown!

The following presentation is rated R(For language and extreme violence)
Viewer discretion is advised.
Close captioning where it is available by pressing the CC button on your controller.
Trust us, it's there.
Now available in High Definition(HD)!
Note: The matches are truly fictional and scripted. This show isn't meant to put any team, player, member, race, or culture down. This is just for fun, so if you don't like it then you have the right to read another blog. Being that I've written wrestling storylines and I'm familar with the business, I decided to create this. Again, this is scripted, so the outcome of the matches might not be what you expect in trying to put together entertainment for members and fans. Enjoy, and DO NOT take this seriously.

Highlights are shown of the Blogger's Rumble PFV.

Tonight, the road to No Recovery! begins with the return of BWE Throwdown! Fragnoli will go 1-on-1 with mojomike in the main event tonight! (Fireworks and pyros are set off as we are live on the air for the return of BWE Throwdown! Cameras have circled around the arena as the fans erupt. The camera zooms in on the ThrowdownTron!)
Sabre Blade: Welcome everyone to the soldout Mo's Tavern here in Boston! There's alot going on in BWE right now, and we'll try to get you caught up on everything as the night progresses! But look at the matches we have.....
-Main Event: fragnoli vs mojomike! If fragnoli wins, he'll be added back to the BWE Title picture at No Recovery! If mojomike wins, fragnoli can never challenge Mo or Mojomike anytime they have the belt! Will the Fragnoli Curse be alive in this match! Mo Morrissey has been named special guest referee for that match!
-SEC AU Growwwl & ???? vs the Female Trolliation: Loriebamafan was supposed to be Growwwl's partner, but she's injured. I really wonder if Growwwl can find someone to team with her tonight!
-The BEEZEWAX vs Sawdust: BEEZE finally makes his debut tonight! Can he win? Or will Sawdust spoil it for him tonight?

(Cameras are in the office of the new BWE GM KDL(Ken D. Long) talking on the phone when Mo Morrissey walks in)
KDL: Hi Mo.
(Mo is eating a doughnut while speaking to KDL)
Mo: I'm going to be blunt here. Why are you putting me as a special guest referee for the main event tonight?
KDL: I need someone that can control matters in the ring.
Mo: Let me explain something to you. I'm the BWE Heavyweight Champion. I'm also in my home venue, and I don't think any of these fans here want to see me ref a match!
(Huge Face POP)
Mo: So there must be some kind of match you can have me in tonight. Heck, Lanz1 is available, too! Make a tag match or something! I don't need to be no referee!
(Mo leaves)
(KDL is thinking in his head what to do)
(KDL is now leaving his office)

(Cameras take us to the backstage area where SEC AU Growwwl is on her cell phone trying to find a tag team partner to face the Female Trolliation tonight)
Growwwl: Can you come tonight?
(Growwwl looks disappointed)
Growwwl: OK. I'll have to see if I can find somebody that's here tonight.
(All the sudden, the WHFB group comes in out of nowhere)
Growwwl: Hey, get your hands off me! Leave me alone!
(We Hate Female Bloggers crew begins to berate Growwwl and attack her)
(GM KDL walks in)
KDL: Hey, is there a problem here?
WHFB #1: No, no. No problem here.
KDL: Growwwl, are you alright?
Growwwl: I am now!
KDL: It seems to me that you guys are in the mood to fight!
WHFB: Yeah, I we hate female bloggers so I want to beat one of them up!
KDL: I'm sure Growwwl or any other female would love to knock you feminists into next week! But Growwwl has a match already.
WHFB: What about the others?
KDL: Do you know the one thing that I really can't stand over anything in this world?
WHFB: What?
KDL: REALLY BAD THINGS! So tonight, I'm going to do a really good thing for everyone here at the Tavern! Tonight, all four of you are going to be in the ring! Since I just had a conversation with our BWE Heavyweight Champion, I'm going to give him what he wants! Tonight, Mo, Lanz, and two other guys will face you four later on! And that my friend is a VERY GOOD THING!
(KDL walks away)
Sabre Blade: WOW! I hope Mo, Lanz, and the rest of the team destroys them later tonight! So Mo will be in action at his home!

(Cameras take us to inside the arena)
(The Karmic Boomerang is in the ring throwing out boomerangs to the capacity crowd)

Sabre Blade: There's Afrank Angle! He's coming out here to campaign? I'm not sure what he's campaigning for, but there's a purpose for this.
(Afrank is shaking hands with fans on his way to the ring)
(Afrank finally makes his way to the ring and grabs a microphone)
Afrank: OK, I'm out here to campaign for President! Do you want to end on-line violence?! Then vote for me! Do you want to end the whining on the internet from bloggers? Then vote for me! Stalkers, cyberpaths, plagiarism, bullies.....Do you want them gone? Vote for Afrank Angle! And I want to end the debate on who the new draft pick is to BWE! Elect me for President, and I won't disappoint you! Now bring out the new draft pick!
(Crowd waits impatiently looking at the entrance ramp)
Karmic: Yeah, we all want to know right now!
Afrank: C'mon out here!
Karmic: I had better be a good one!

(The Sporting Blog staff comes in from the stands)
(They jump Karmic and Afrank from behind)
(Huge Heel POP)
Sabre Blade: What the heck is this about?! The TSB is stomping away at Karmic and Afrank! It's Chris Littman, Dan Spanoff, Large Larzelere, and spencer Hall that have come down! They continue to pound away here!
(Littman is saying that he's taking his frustrations out on anyone because of BWE not being under contract with SN)
(Littman grabs a microphone)
Littman: Well, it looks like we're going to take down BWE for not being on SN any longer! As far as the new draft pick, it's probably a jobber because the CEO sure does "bait and switch" a lot!
(TSB continues to kick away at Karmic and Boomerang)
Sabre: So that's what this is about! The audicity of these guys to come out here and do this! They continue to pound away at Karmic and Afrank!

(The Ultimate Blogger runs as fast he can to the ring)
(Crowd is in a frenzy now)
Sabre: It's The Ultimate Blogger! He's the new draft pick to BWE! He's hit the ring.....double-clothesline on Spanoff and Large! Double-clothesline on Hall and Littman! This place is going bananas! Karmic is back up, and so is Afrank! Afrank elevates Spanoff over the top rope! Clothesline by Karmic as Large goes out of the ring! The Ultimate Blogger with a double-clothesline on Littman and Hall that sends them to the arena floor! The Ultimate Blogger is now on BWE, and this place is going crazy! Well, he's at least brought some good karma to this segment of the show, that's for sure! Look at the TSB retreating now! I get the feeling this is just beginning for TSB trying to undermine BWE for not having a contract with SN!
(The Ultimate Blogger, Afrank, and Karmic make their way to the backstage area)

Sabre: What a way to kickoff the return of BWE Throwdown! The Ultimate Blogger is now in BWE! Coming up next....The BEEZEWAX makes his in-ring debut as he takes on Sawdust! Stay tuned!

(Indistinct message on the phone)
Growwwl: Well, I'm glad you made your way back to the Mo's Tavern!
(Indistinct message on the phone)

(Cameras go back to the ring)
(Bell sounds)

(Refs come in to calm BEEZE down)
Sabre: BEEZE sure did look good in his debut, and made easy work of Sawdust though! That guy isn't someone you want to mess with when he's angry! I'm just glad that the sawdust is gone from the arena as BEEZE now celebrates in the ring after winning his debut match in BWE! Folks, this is a guy to watch out for in BWE!

But Lorie isn't medically cleared after what happened to her on the previous UnCut Show. No one's coming out, so unfortunately, Growwwl will have to go at alone for now!

She just pulled FT#1 down from the ring apron, and is firing some heavy right-hands to her face! FT#2 is distracted, and Growwwl gets a bulldog takedown on her! She slams FT#1's head onto our announce table! Now she's climbing the ring apron and.....oh no! She's going to jump onto FT#1!

FT#2 blocks an elevation backdrop attempt by Tex with a kick to the face! But Tex catches FT#2 with a full nelson slam as she ducked the clothesline with an awesome counter! FT#1 and Growwwl are battling on the outside, and FT#1 goes flying head-first into the ringpost! Tex is waiting for FT#2 to get up! (Tex is waving her right arm in a gesture waving a flag) She's calling for the Checkered Flag! Tex hits FT#2 with a spear sending her flying into the corner followed by a running bulldog! 1-2-3! Ever wanted to get views from an Ohio resident with his own "angle"? Well, then A Frank Angle is the place to be! From sports to politics and everything in between, he's got you covered! A Frank Angle: Thoughts from the inner mind.

Sabre: We're back on BWE Throwdown! Folks, this has been one heck of a night! Things started off with the TSB coming out to interrupt Afrank Angle and Karmic before The Ultimate Blogger was revealed as the new member on the BWE roster. BEEZE absolutely dominated his match with Sawdust after the arena finally recovered from the allergic conditions from the debris. A match was made by our GM with Mo, Lanz, wilt, and hdiaz facing the WHFB. After Mo's team won, a group of guys wearing monkey suits came out to jump the four winners, and I don't know why. Tex came back to team with SEC AU Growwwl as they took down the Female Trolliation. Doodlebug also came out in that match, but was escorted out by security. But this next match should be a good one.

Back at the Blogger's Rumble PFV, fragnoli came so close to becoming the first ever BWE Heavyweight Champion. During the course of the match, two guys showed up in monkey suits jumping frag and Mo. They came out to attack Mo and the rest of the team earlier in the night, but they had more of them as eight came this time around. It has been said that fragnoli had a curse placed on him which meant he'll never wear the BWE Championship belt. He has the chance to prove tonight that he's not under any curse. Mojomike survived in the Blogger's Rumble match against 29 others. He's already declared that he's going after the BWE Championship, and he can literally knock fragnoli out of the title picture with a win. Mike has been on a roll since coming to BWE. Fragnoli has to win in order to get his shot at the BWE Heavyweight Championship. If not, fragnoli will not be able to face Mo or mojomike for the gold as long as either one of them has it.

(Bell sounds)
Sabre: And we go!

Ring announcer: The following contest is the main event for this evening, and is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first from Vermont! He's the 2006 Duffs Cup Award winner and owner of Reel To Field! This is fragnoli!
(Huge Face POP)
(Frag is wearing a Sloth t-shirt and shakes hands with fans at ringside. He then throws the Sloth shirt into the crowd)
Sabre: What a huge ovation for fragnoli! I think it's safe to say that he'll have homefield advantage in this one! He's one of the best BWE has to offer, and he's determined to get a rematch for the BWE Championship!

Ring announcer: And his opponent! He hails from Portland, OR! He's a veteran blogger from Sporting News! The Unstoppable, mojomike!
(Mostly a face pop because of being from the West Coast)
(Mike comes out with a Portland Trail Blazers jersey on)
Sabre: I don't know if anyone has more momentum right now than mojomike in BWE Promotions. He won the Blogger's Rumble after securing a contract at the first Holiday Combat PFV last December! Fragnoli will most definitely have his hands full here!

Main Event: mojomike vs fragnoli

(Bell sounds)
Sabre: And here we go! Both men begin to circle around the ring! Collar-n-elbow tie-up as mojomike backs fragnoli into a corner! Mojomike with a right-hand to the jaw of fragnoli! And another one! Mike whips frag into the opposite corner! Mike comes charging in, and frag moves out of the way! Frag with a dropkick that sends Mike down to the canvas! Frag whips Mike into the ropes, but Mike reverses! Mike misses a clothesline, but connects with a high-knee to the face of frag! Mike is in control and he slams frag's head into the turnbuckle! Mike with repeated elbow shots to the head of frag! That's some high impact blows coming from mojomike! Frag reverses being whipped into the far corner! He catches Mike with a high elevation backdrop! Frag follows that up with a dropkick that sends Mike to the outside of the ring! Frag with a suicide dive thru the middle ropes onto Mike! Both men are slow to get up, but Frag seems to be in control of the match now! Frag throws Mike back in the ring! There's just so much at stake here! Frag punches Mike in the head, and whips him into the ropes! Mike counters an elevation backdrop into a vertical suplex! Mike hits the reverse atomic drop on frag, but frag with a vicious powerslam on Mike as he came charging at him! 1-2-but Mike kicks out of that! Frag with some forearm uppercuts on Mike as he got to his feet! Now frag whips Mike into the ropes! Mike ducks a clothesline, and oh my! Both guys just knocked heads as fragnoli turned around to see Mike coming at him! Both men are down!
(Ref begins the 10-count)
(Frag gets to his feet first before Mike does)
Sabre: Frag is up, and both guys look very dizzy after hitting heads! Frag goes for the a flying bodypress, but Mike moves out of the way as frag goes neck-first into the top rope! Mike with a jump on frag as he had his neck on the middle ropes! Mike picks up frag and whips him into the turnbuckle! Mike follows him in with a clothesline! Mike whips frag into the other corner, and he hits a sidewalk slam! 1-2-but frag kicks out! Mike picks frag back up and whips him into the ropes! Frag with a fisherman's suplex(on the elevation backdrop attempt)! 1-2-but Mike kicks out! Mike comes back with a clothesline on frag! Frag is down as mojomike nails him with a knee to the head! 1-2-but frag kicks out! Mike picks up frag again, and whips him into the ropes! Frag reverses, and nails Mike with powerslam! But frag doesn't have enough in him to make the pinfall! Both men are down again, and Mike makes it to his feet first! Mike charges after frag, and goes chest-first into the turnbuckle! Frag with an inside-cradle! 1-2-but Mike kicks out of it! Frag hoists Mike up to the top rope, and looks like he's going for superplex! Mike is fighting him off, and knocks frag down to the mat! Uh oh! Mike's going for the PDX(Splash off the top rope named after the Portland airport code)! But frag moves out of the way! Frag goes for the pin! 1-2-but Mike kicks out again! Frag slams Mike face-first into the turnbuckle and is going for the superplex again! Mike tries to punch him off, but punches him back and almost knocks Mike out of the ring! Frag with a superplex off the top rope! Both men are down!
(Ref begins the 10-count)
Sabre: Frag makes it to his feet first! Mike is out of it! Frag climbs the top rope! What is he doing!
(Frag then falls off the turnbuckle and nearly lands head-first to the outside of the ring)
Sabre: What the heck just happened there! Frag lost his balance and fell to the outside of the ring! Folks, I don't think this was supposed to happen like that! Mike gets back up, and is wondering what is going on! The ref begins the 10-count! Frag is just now moving a little bit as the count reaches 8! He's not going to make it back in! Frag has been counted out! I don't believe this! Mojomike has won the match by countout, but that's not even the story! Is frag cursed or what?! He had all the momentum in this match until he unexpectedly fell from the top rope attempting a move! There maybe a curse on fragnoli afterall!

Winner- mojomike by countout

(Frag is back up and Mike is still in the ring asking the ref what happened)
(All the sudden, the NCAA and monkey guys come back out)
Sabre: What the heck! Frag has been jumped from behind by those same NCAA shirt-wearing guys! Oh there's the rest of them jumping mojomike in the ring! How did these guys get back in the building?! They throw fragnoli head-first into the ring post on the outside! Mike is getting repeatedly kicked and punched by this clan! I can't believe these guys, and I still don't know why they're here or who they are! Someone needs to damn well tell me why two of our BWE guys are getting the fool beat out of them by this group who got kicked out of the arena! Damnit, this isn't right! Frag and Mike are getting decimated here!
(Mo, Lanz, Wilt, and hdiaz come out)
Sabre: Hey, here comes some help! Mo is back out and so is Lanz, Wilt, and hdiaz! There's MadMan! Here comes BEEZE! The BWE roster has come out to fend off this clan! The BWE roster is fighting back on these guys as they try to retreat! Mo with a clothesline on one of them out of the ring! It's old-fashioned melee here, and we're just about out of time! Frag and Mike are back up and this is a brawl! Those NCAA-wearing guys have monkey masks on, and we still don't know who they are! They wanted a war, and they're damn sure getting one! I hope to find out more about these guys! BWE has cleared the ring of this clan! The BWE roster wants them to come back to the ring! We're out of time! What a crazy night this has been! So long everybody! We'll see you next time on BWE Throwdown! GOOD NIGHT!

BWE Throwdown! Preview

For you first time readers, this is just for fun and is NOT to be taken seriously. This is fictional and not real. Most of the members used on this are from Sporting News, but we're adding people in all the time. Enjoy.

The time has come! It is time for Basic Bloganomics to air it's first episode of BWE Throwdown! At the Blogger's Rumble!, Mo Morrissey won the BWE Heavyweight Championship by defeating fragnoli. Also, mojomike won the Blogger's Rumble match itself and earned a shot at either the BWE or EBW Champion at No Recovery! As announced on Big Sooners fan' blog on Sporting News, mojomike has decided to go after the BWE Title at No Recovery. The GM for BWE, KDL(Ken D. Long), has been busy, and made a main event match for tomorrow evening that should blow the roof off Mo's Tavern. Here's the matches as we know them now.....

SEC AU Growwwl & ???? vs the Female Trolliation: On the previous episode of EBW UnCut, Loriebamafan was injured after protesting the controversial ending to the BWE Women's Title match. Lorie was seriously injured, and cannot compete in this match. This leaves SEC AU Growwwl without a partner going up against both members of the Female Trolliation. So far, she hasn't found a partner, so can it be done in time for her match at Mo's Tavern? Or will the FT prevail regardless?

The BEEZEWAX vs Sawdust: BEEZE makes his debut in the ring on BWE as he takes on the unpredictable Sawdust. BEEZE won't be in a joking mood at Mo's Tavern, so Sawdust better watch out or BEEZE may put him in the hospital! BEEZE is looking to make an instant impact while Sawdust is going to ruin the debut of BEEZE.

MAIN EVENT:
fragnoli vs mojomike: This is more than just two legendary bloggers going at it. There are stipulations in this match to go along with bragging rights. If fragnoli wins this match, he'll be back in the BWE Championship picture in a Triple Threat bout involving mojomike and Mo Morrissey at No Recovery! If mojomike wins, fragnoli can never challenge either Mo or Mojomike for the BWE Championship. This is provided that Mo is still champion at that point. Should frag lose, he can only go after the title if someone other than Mo or mojomike are holding it. Fragnoli fought a hard fight against Mo at the Blogger's Rumble, so he's looking to get back in the title hunt. Mojomike, the Blogger's Rumble winner, is looking to carry that momentum over here. Is the Fragnoli Curse real? Or can frag get back in the BWE Title picture? Also, Mo Morrissey was disgusted with the fact that KDL is ordering him to referee this match. Mo was unable to be reached for comment, but he's not happy with that decision according to one source.

We've just gotten word that Afrank Angle will be making an appearance on BWE Throwdown! I'm not sure what this is about, but rumors are flying. We'll have to find out what's on his mind when he shows up tomorrow night!

Recently on Sporting News, it was announced that a contract had been reached between Big Sooners fan and SN. Some SN staff members were said to be upset about this because of them not being able to have BWE. No one knows who it was, but it's being reported that whoever they are will show up at the Tavern tomorrow.

And last but not least, several months ago, BWE and EBW made a trade that brought The Phoenix back to EBW. It was a Blogger to be named later deal, and that person will be revealed on Throwdown! Who is it? Check the EBW roster on our BWE site because one of them is coming to Throwdown!

Mo's Tavern in Boston is the place to be tomorrow night as BWE Throwdown! comes to the Basic Bloganomics network for the first time! We hope to see you there!

Premio Dardos Award

I wanted to let everyone know that my site was down briefly today, and that the bandwidth for the page has exceeded with pictures for the month. I'm feeling a little ill today as well, but one friend of mine from Brazil literally made my day today.

Casa de Boneca over at her site gave me an extremely special award today. In case you don't know, her ID stands for dollhouse in English. You can certainly tell that she's a doll collector on her site, too. I've learned a little bit of the Portuguese language because of her and a few of my friends there in Brazil. Casa knows and speaks English, too. She's one of the kindest bloggers you'll find on the internet, and that speaks volumes for the award she gave to me today. I'm certainly proud to call her a friend on here. Thank you and I'll create a seperate link for awards on here. Here's what the award is for and about.....

The significance of the prize:
"With the Premio Dardos is to recognize the values that each blogger uses to transmit cultural values, ethical, literary, personal, etc.. that, in short, demonstrate their creativity through the thought that is alive and remains intact from their letters, between his words. These stamps were created with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers, a way of showing affection and gratitude for a job that adds value to the Web. "

The rules for receiving the prize are:
1) View the image of the stamp;
2) Link the blog for which you received the alert;
3) Choose 12 other blogs to those who deliver the Premio Dardos.
4) And tell everyone, of course!

So here are the 12 people I'm going to give this special award to, and I sincerely hope you accept it out of respect for what this means. These choices weren't easy, that's for sure. At least I hope you post the picture on your site. Also, I hope those I named haven't received it yet, and if so, I apologize in advance.

Super Bowl History, Facts, & Numbers

OK, as some of you may have seen on the Presidents of the United States post, I'm going to do virtually the same thing with the Super Bowl. First, I'll provide you with a brief origin of the event before I get to recapping the previous Super Bowls. Then we'll add a few single game records to go along with some facts and numbers that anyone can feel free to add to.

Origin

The National Football League began play in 1920, and struggled to financially survive in it's early history. Many rival leagues would attempt to compete with the NFL, but none were able to outlast them. The NFL would eventually make it's way to being one of the most popular sports in America by the 1950s.

In 1960, the NFL finally had met it's match as the rival American Football League established themselves. Previously, leagues of the same name attempted to compete with the NFL, but this one had legitimate shot. They were able to secure a television contract spear-headed by Lamar Hunt.

After both leagues had intense biddings and wars for players, they finally were able to agree to a merger on June 8, 1966. The two leagues agreed to have it's best teams meet in what they called the World Championship of Football. The first game saw the NFL Champion Green Bay Packers against the AFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Green Bay won the first two Championships, but the AFL would win the following two to even the score.

Super Bowl V marked the first time the event was called by it's current name. Eventually, expansion of teams and the playoff format would push the date of the game to the end of January and now first week in February. The Super Bowl has been the most watched event in the United States and has grew immensely in popularity around the world. The tradition of the Super Bowl on Sunday has become one of most notable events in television and sports history. The Vince Lombardi Trophy, named in honor after his death in 1970, is awarded to the winning team in each Super Bowl.

Super Bowl facts and numbers:

-The NFC is 22-20 against the AFC in Super Bowl play which includes the first four years when it was known as the World Championship.
-Most wins: Dallas, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh each have five. The Steelers go for their sixth overall this year.
Most losses: Minnesota and Buffalo have lost four times. They haven't won a Super Bowl either.
Most wins without a loss: San Francisco is 5-0 in Super Bowl play.
-City that has hosted most Super Bowls: Miami and New Orleans have hosted nine.
-Highest rated game: Super Bowl XVI between the 49ers and Bengals drew 49.1
-Most viewers: Super Bowl XLII with 97.5 million in the U.S.

-Five teams have never played in a Super Bowl: Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New Orleans Saints. Cleveland and Detroit are the only two pre-expansion teams that have never appeared in a Super Bowl.
-Nine teams that appeared in a Super Bowl have never won: Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennesee Titans. Arizona Cardinals will join the list if they lose Super Bowl XLIII. So currently, 15 teams have never won a Super Bowl.

-This year's Super Bowl marks only the third time that two pre-expansion teams(before 1960) have met in the same game. The other two were Super Bowl XIV between the Steelers and Rams and Super Bowl XLI between the Colts and Bears.

-Only three times in Super Bowl history has a person won the game as a player and coach: Tom Flores as a player in Super Bowl IV and coach in Super Bowl XV. Mike Ditka as a player in Super Bowl VI and coach in Super Bowl XX. Tony Dungy as a player in Super Bowl XIII and coach in Super Bowl XLI.

-In 42 Super Bowls, 22 of them have seen both teams hold the lead at least once in those games

-Joe Montana holds the record with three Super Bowl MVPs. He threw 11 touchdowns in four games, and never had an interception in Super Bowl play. His career QB rating was 127.8.

-A 30 second commercial spot during the Super Bowl costed 42,000 during it's first game in 1967. The cost for this year's Super Bowl is $3 million which doesn't include production costs.

-Devin Hester is the only player to start out the Super Bowl with a kickoff return touchdown doing so in XLI.

-Super Bowl XIX is the only time in history where the event and Presidential Inauguration took place in the same day. Because the inauguration took place on a Sunday, Ronald Reagan's second term began privately in 1985. The next day, a public ceremony took place for Reagan.

Blog Wrestling Entertainment(BWE): The revolutionary force in blog entertainment!

Now here's your host, David Funk!!!!
Funk: Welcome everyone to BWE Uncovered! This is a show where we look at pro wrestling from the past and now in the present. This is a show I did on my Sporting News blog as Big Sooners fan over two years ago. And what a show we have for you tonight! Since WWE's Pay-Per-View is this Sunday, this show will be about the Royal Rumble both past and present.
-News and card for the Royal Rumble
-BWE Recall flashes back to some facts about past Royal Rumble events.
-PPV Vault flashes back to the very first Royal Rumble event.

So now let's look at the news regarding this Sunday's PFV.....

Here are the announced participants: Fit Finlay, Mark Henry, CM Punk, R-Truth, Carlito, The Brian Kendrick, Triple H, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, Shelton Benjamin, Undertaker, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, The Miz, John Morrison, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase Jr, Santino Marella, Kane. There are nine other participants in the match that have not been announced or will be known on Sunday. Shawn Michaels is likely going to be one of them.

-World Heavyweight Champion John Cena defends the title against JBL. I'm thinking they'll have Cena retain because I see no point in JBL holding the title now.

-WWE Champion Jeff Hardy defends the title against Edge. I think we finally will find out who's been out to setup Jeff Hardy at this event. I see Edge getting the title back.

-ECW Champion Jack Swagger defends the title against Matt Hardy. I think Swagger likely retains here.

-WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix defends the title against Melina. This is interesting here. Beth has been a great heel in the women's division while Melina has come all the way back. It's great to see the sexiest entrance in wrestling from Melina again though!

Notes on the event.....
-Melina will host a live Royal Rumble BLOG on Sunday before the event that starts at 6:30pm est. She'll be on taking questions at 7:30pm est.
-The event takes place in Detroit and gets underway at 8pm est live on Pay-Per-View. This is the promotion's 22nd Royal Rumble event.

-Out of the previous match winners, three are now deceased: Big John Studd, Yokozuna, and Chris Benoit.

We're back on BWE Uncovered! Now let's take a look back at the first ever Royal Rumble event that happened in 1988.....

-Date: January 24, 1988
-Location: Copps Coliseum; Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
-Attendance: 18,000

Here are the match results and elimination order for the Royal Rumble event:

-Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat defeated Rick Rude by DQ after Rude pulled the referee into him while Steamboat jumped off the top rope.

-The Jumping Bomb Angels defeated The Glamour Girls in a 2 out of 3 falls match to win the WWF Tag Team Titles.

-The Islanders defeated The Young Stallions in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Here is the elimination order for the participants in the Royal Rumble match(when they entered listed with them):

1. Butch Reed(3)
2. Tito Santana(2)
3. Boris Zhukov(10)
4. Harley Race(6)
5. Jim Brunzell(7)
6. Jim Neidhart(4)
7. Sam Houston(8)
8. Bret Hart(1)
9. B. Brian Blair(15)
10. Jake "The Snake" Roberts(5)
11. Nikolai Volkoff(12)
12. Hillbilly Jim(16)
13. Danny Davis(9)
14. Ultimate Warrior(18)
15. The Junkyard Dog(20)
16. Ron Bass(14)
17. Don Muraco(11)
18. Dino Bravo(17)
19. One Man Gang(19)
Winner-"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan came in at No.13.

Notes: This was shown on live TV on the USA network, then became a PPV event the next year. This is also the only time that 20 participants were in the Royal Rumble event when there has been 30 every other time. This event was very unique in that every minute, another wrestler enters the ring in this elimination battle royal. Now it is every 90 seconds. You have no idea who is coming out next either, and the booker cleverly picks the order of entry to make the event interesting.

WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson is credited with coming up with the concept of an elimination match. His idea was pointed out just weeks before the event took place.

This was the biggest accomplishment for Duggan other than being crowned at one time because he never held a WWF title while he wrestled there. The One Man Gang is given credit for eliminating the most wrestlers for this event with six. Duggan eliminated three wrestlers with One Man Gane being the last one. The two had a long feud in Mid-South/UWF Wrestling before coming to the WWF/E.

This event also saw the contract signing between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant in a rematch for the WWF Title from WrestleMania III on the next Main Event telecast. That show was where Hogan's initial reign as champion came to and end.

The Young Stallions tag team was Paul Roma and Jim Powers. They were preliminary jobbers for the most part, and Roma went on to be a member of the Four Horseman in WCW while Powers jumped ship, too.

Steamboat and Rude would later have an intense feud in WCW after both had left the company. Steamboat would fair better in WCW winning their promotion's championship while Rude was often a main eventer there, too.

The Glamour Girls(Lelani Lai and Judy Martin) would win the belts back, but the titles would be retired the next year after the lack of crowd responses in women's matches. Now only two titles exist in WWE with one on each brand.

That's our show for this edition of BWE Uncovered! Thanks for tuning in! We'll see you for the next edition! So long everybody!

Promotional consideration paid for by the following:
-Political Championship Wrestling(PCW): Accurately summing up the state of American politics!
-A Frank Angle: Thoughts from an Inner Mind.
