Bradford entering NFL Draft after surgery

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner, will have surgery to repair his damaged right throwing shoulder by Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.

Bradford initially injured his shoulder against BYU at Cowboys Stadium in the opener just before halftime as the Sooners lost 14-13. He left the game during the second offensive series against Texas after being sacked by cornerback Aaron Williams which appears to be the last play of Bradford's career.

Bradford led the Sooners as a red-shirt freshman to a Big 12 Championship followed by a repeat in his sophomore campaign to go along with the Heisman Trophy. The Sooners made the BCS Championship Game in a loss to Florida in January.

During his career at Oklahoma, Bradford set the career mark for the school in passing touchdowns with 88. Also, he set the record for passing yards in a season with 4,720 passing yards to go along with 50 touchdown passes as the Sooners averaged more points per game in a season in college football history.

The Sooners are currently 4-3 on the season, and Landry Jones will be the starter coming off a win on the road against Kansas on Saturday.

Bradford is expected to recover within four to six months according to a statement released by him. The NFL Draft is on April 22.

I was personally hoping that Bradford would use his last year of eligibility, but only he knows what is best for him. He has talked with the staff and feels this is the best decision for him. I do think he's very determined for the challenge ahead of him, and he has the leadership skills to excel at the next level.

He's always been a positive role model for Oklahoma and in the community. As a resident of Oklahoma City as a kid, he lived his dream of playing for his favorite team.

Thanks Sam for the good memories and your contributions to the Oklahoma Sooners football program. Hopefully, your success will eventually transfer to the NFL level, too.

I wasn't a huge fan of his before the injuries, but hope he has a good pro career

him, Tebow, McCoy, Locker, Claussen all don't really hit me as future stars in the NFL....Pike perhaps

but I could be wrong again

CCC, he's a great man, so it is hard not to pull for him no matter what team anyone likes.

It's very possible he's a hit or a miss at the next level at this point. A lot of factors to consider for all those you mentioned, including Bradford.

I'd like to see him excel since no other Sooners QB has never made any serious impact at the next level.

Thanks for commenting. :)

It's a shame this happened to a guy who put off the millions to play a game he loved for a team he loved.

Lester, for some reason your comment didn't go to my inbox.

Anyway, it is unfortunate what happened to Bradford, but I don't think it is a totally lost cause yet. I guess time will tell on this.
