Here are some significant events that took place on May 19.....
Sports
1910: In Major League Baseball(MLB), legendary pitcher Cy Young wins his 500th game as the Cleveland Indians defeated Washington 5-4 in 11 innings. He ended up with a record 511 career wins, and retired the following season.
1935: In the NFL, it is announced that the first ever college draft will begin the following year. Today, the NFL Draft is the most watched off-season event in American sports.
1984: In the NHL, the Edmonton Oilers defeat the New York Islanders 5-2 in Game 5 to become Stanley Cup Champions. This was significant because Wayne Gretzky won his first of four Stanley Cups and the Oilers were the first team from the WHA league(joined NHL in 1979) to win the title. Oilers' Mark Messier was MVP of the Finals.
U.S. News
1643: Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth, Connecticut, and New Haven meet to form the New England Confederation. This was done to defend territories as well as settle disputes of the boundaries.
1921: U.S. Congress passes the Emergency Quota Act which officially establishes quotas on immigration.
World News
1588: The Spanish Armada sails for England before being defeated by the English. This significantly changed the balance of power in Europe and all over the world.
1961: The U.S.S.R sent the Venera series of probes to gather info on the planet Venus. This marked the first time a man-made object entered another atmosphere besides Earth.

500+ wins for Cy Young is a record that will never even come close to being broken. Of course they said the same thing about Aaron. That Venera series reminds me of all the news clips I used to see as a kid during the cold war. I didn't know much about them, but I knew I had to beat the Soviet Union at everything I did, especially Olympics video games lol

Rad, I agree by about Cy's record. Still, one pitcher averaging 20 wins a year for 20 seasons still would leave you 100 short of his record.
I didn't know much about the Venera Series either until looking up more info about it. It was definitely worth mentioning for the significance of it.
Yeah, I wanted to beat the Soviets in my old NES International hockey game! LOL!
