Plagiarism Tag

When my very good friend Tammy first sent me a message on my cbox for a tag, I had no idea it would be because of supporting a friend that had their paid post copied. I noticed Lainy talked about it being someone she admired and Tammy knew this person, too. They are two of my best blogger friends, so I'm posting this tag to help out as well as their friend Juliana, who had her work copied. Unfortunately, this kind of thing isn't something I'm new to because I've seen this before.

A little over two years ago, I had my posts from my Sporting News blog copied by someone that was on my friend's list. I found out that this same person copied several other friends of mine, too. Paul H, who everyone sees me mention all the time, saw all this happen on SN to where he posted publicly about it, too. We know how mad some people got, so I understand why someone would be upset over this one.

While it did upset us to find this out, we did eventually joke around by making a dedicated movie based on the experience called True Blogger Story: Mr. Cutten Paste. Plus, it inspired to create a group to use in BWE called D-Plagiarization X. Okay, that wasn't the only time it happened.

I'm not going to name the site where this one happened at, but the person tried to copy a sports post I made and submit it for payment. The problem was, the site does search to make sure all submitted posts are their own, so it is legitimately coming from that person and not copied. I found out because I did a random search to see the same exact post being copied from me that the person put on here. So to get around that, the person decided to post it to get paid for traffic instead.

In both cases, the people responsible were suspended off of those sites. It's one thing to copy, but it's quite another to make money off of the effort of someone else. Plagiarism in the journalism industry is the ultimate sin, and has led to many terminations and civil lawsuits with employers.

I'm really a very nice guy on here and in person, but even I don't tolerate my friends being used like this with someone stealing their writing. No, it isn't the worst crime, but it is still very wrong to steal work nonetheless.

What is Plagiarism?

According to Dictionary, Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work.

To all Bloggers who exert effort to create noteworthy entries and who continue to maintain a Blog which is a reflection of who she / he is, ” Good job! ”

To those who have the desire to Blog but are merely scraping contents from other peoples materials, ” Whether you are monetizing your site to help you with your basic needs or to satisfy some of your wants, do it the proper way. Stop making money out of someone else’s work. Otherwise, you are nothing but a common thief! ”

Thank you!

Now, I'm not going to specifically name friends to pass this tag to because this one isn't about being anyone's friend. It is about anyone that reads this to grab the tag, and do the right thing to post this because it can happen to you.

I would strongly suggest getting your work copyrighted to prevent this problem and protect yourself. You can go to MyFreeCopyright to help you out.

If you post someone's work, give them credit for it instead of claiming it as your own. Write your own material, but do feel free to COPY and PASTE this tag and share. Do you copy that?
