OK, as most of you may have noticed, there were messages all over the site on my last template that said, "bandwidth exceeded". Then of course it said to upgrade to Photobucket Pro. Or it's going to look something like this....
The most common reason this happens is that most image hosting accounts have a one month limit on bandwidth. Once you exceed that limit, every person that has a simular template as you may see an ugly mess like in the picture above. If you like the template you have, then you should immediately address the issue once you see it. If not, you can change the template, but you might have the same problem once the end of the following month comes around with the new one.
You're likely never going to find out exactly how much bandwidth your allowed in a month, so there are other free hosting sites to use. Sometimes, the bandwidth can be exceeded depending on how many images you upload to your entries over a period of time.
Here's some other signs of possible bandwidth limits exceeding on your site.....
1. A white blank template background can show up without seeing your normal page.
2. A message that comes up saying something like, "This page has been aborted" and then it goes to a seperate page where the site cannot be found. Many times, you can refresh the page and it will work. But as the month goes on, it can become like that the entire time. That happened to me on a Notepad template I had before.
3. Error messages on your page or blank pictures where they would normally be.
4. A site can also become completely non-accessible to anyone that has exceeded the bandwidth on their page. I had this happen to me twice with two different templates, but this doesn't happen often.
As some of you know that have followed me since I started on Blogger, I've went through a few templates on here. I noticed that everytime I had bandwidth issues, it was at the end of each month. So after doing a little searching instead of clogging up the Google Groups section at the end of each month, I found out why. If you want to keep the template and fix the problem, here are the things I suggest you do.....
1. Download your template and upload it again. You may get lucky and it refreshes your site to it's original look. If not.....
2. Download your template, then use a free image hosting site(like Photo Bucket for example which is what I use) to post your site images. Notice I said site images. And you have to have a little experience in downloading images. You can right-click some of the site images into your file, then upload them to your hosting account.
Another thing you could do is look very closely at your HTML code of your template to find images that end in .jpg, .png., etc. Some will have a URL that has "http://tinyurl" in it's address, too(which I had on mine). You can hit Control + F then find "http://tinyurl" in order to locate any with that same URL. If you're not familar with HTML coding, then I would strongly suggest asking someone who is to avoid further damage to your template. I'll repeat that again, do NOT mess with your HTML code if you don't know anything about it. Always ask someone who knows because you could do more harm than good and have a bigger mess on your hands.
3. You'll need to scroll down to find every single image(including buttons) in your HTML code if that's what you choose to do(which is what I did). Once you find your first image URL, then open up a seperate window and save the image once it appears on your page. Repeat this for all images on your template, then immediately upload them on your own hosting page. Then replace the old images on your template with the newly downloaded ones on your hosting page. And remember to always download your template before doing any of this. Just to be safe, I would reload the downloaded template file and save the template once you're done uploading your site images.
Once you move all of your image files to your hosting site, bandwidth issues shouldn't be a problem any longer once you put them into your template. I do know a free account with Photo Bucket allows you 25GB a month for images, and a Pro Account has no limit. Google Pages is another service you can use as well. Just remember that if you switch templates without hosting the images on a different page, you could see that mess on your new template at the end of the following month, too.
I highly suggest that if you have simular images showing up on your page such as the picture above that you upload them from your hosting site from now on. Just be sure to upload any image to your hosting site before putting them on Blogger.
You might get lucky that the template designer may let you know where they're hosting their images at, too. If not, then follow these steps above or change your template altogether.
I used my PayPal account to cover my Pro account for Photo Bucket, and it's good for a year. I'll be happy to help anyone with bandwidth issues as well as hosting images for you on my own Photo Bucket page if need be since I have no bandwidth limit on there.
Again, it usually happens at the end of the month where you're likely to see bandwidth trouble across Blogger sites, so this is nothing unusual at this time. Just ask for help from someone or refer back to this entry if you run into any problems.

I had that problem before and I thought it was the end of the world.
I tried to email the creator of my layout and he was gracious enough to help me. Whewww!
Ron- I know what you mean. I lucked out and my template creator helped with this one to be sure I didn't run into this problem again, too. Plus, I came across a blog that explained in detail how to fix it as well. It definitely helps if your creator can be of assistance. The good thing is, I at least know how to correct the problem now. Thanks for the comment and for sharing.
Right now i'm already using 30MB for images in my blog. Maybe i'll try your tips before it get exceeded.
Thank you
tripzibit- That's up to you. And like Ron indicated, it can be very frustrating to deal with. But as you know, having your site become accessible is very important. Just feel free to look back at this entry should you decide to do it. Thanks for the comment buddy!
Hi David,
First, thanks for visiting my blog and for following (I returned the favor).
As per your post. This happens when the layout is free and the images are hosted using the creators account. Some free layout creators when you download their template, they will separate the images in a different folder and will instruct you to host the image using your account. Which I reckon is very favorable and much better.
I'm just lucky that I know some html basics and I design my own layout, so I don't face such problem. When and if my friends asks me to create a layout for them, I usually ask for their photobucket account or others so I will host the images there. Giving them full access to their layout's images in case there's a problem.
I'm just curious, why aren't you using the JS-Kit comment service and the CommentLuv here in your blog? Its a great kit especially if you're one of those who take time replying their commenters. Plus you can reply to comments thru your email.
Have a great weekend.. Take care. ^_^
oh my oh my! that has never happened to me before but now i am a bit scared... hehe. it's not a huge problem but it is an irritating one. so i am hoping to not encounter this problem.
by the way, you might be interested in advertising on my blog for free. it's not much but it is a way of thanking my followers on Google friend connect. and you are one of them so you can join if you like. here's the link for the rules:

twinks- Hey, thanks for sharing the additional information. I'm certainly no expert on this, and it really comes from my own experience. Besides, I had this happen to me more than once, so that should say enough. I'm glad to hear that you design your own layout, too.
As far as JS-Kits, I just came across that this week on Maxi's blog and I haven't looked into yet. But I will, and I appreciate the endorsement for it. Thanks for commenting.
maxi- Yeah, it really is irritating to deal with. That's why I made sure to deal with the image issue when I switched templates. I'll be stopping by your site here in a little bit, and thanks for the heads up as well as you commenting!
Hi David! My first time here! And I must say you got very interesting and informative stuffs right here!
I often had these problems where my visitors would keep sending me messages that my blog has been a real mess! I went frantic! Since I have no technical know how on this, I relied much on the person who did my layout. She fixed everything, thank God! Everything went back to normal. This post would help us understand more what's happening but I know it can't be learned overnight...
May you have a fabulous weekend ahead of you!
All the Best,
LAINY

Lainy- Thanks for visiting and sharing. As I said, I'm no expert on this, and this came from my own experience because it happened more than once to me. It really is time consuming to have to fix it, but it's better to do than add to the problem later. I'll certainly be checking your page out and thanks for commenting!
aadhi- I checked it out and will add your link in a little while. Thanks.
