Hockey is my favorite sport, followed by Football...I put College ahead of the NFL. Baseball would be next...I haven't followed basketball since Jordan hit that jumper over Craig Ehlo.
Favorite Athletes would Be John Vanbiesbrouck, Gretzky, Savard, Theo Fleury...Right now I like Rick Nash, Henrik Lundqvist, Tim Thomas, Marc Savard...that was all just hockey.
Tony Dorsett was my Favorite past Football player...I have to say that I've been in awe of Tom Brady the last few years.
Baseball, Ryne Sandberg was my favorite when I was a kid...Now I love watching Pedroia, and Youkilis.
In Wrestling it's always been Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Sting for me.
Diva wise, I love Maria.
Fun post...nice job.
BEEZE- I used to follow the NBA very closely up until Jordan hit his very last shot as a Bulls player against Utah in the NBA Finals in 1998.
Sandberg is actually my second favorite past player. When Dawson joined the Cubs, that was when I paid attention more to MLB than any other time in my life.
I like Stone Cold as well because he's a legit real-life tough guy. Sting got his first real exposure in Mid-South, and I remember when he debuted for them(In fact, there's a YouTube video of that). So I'm with you on those choices. The site is named after Cena's old theme "Basic Thuganomics" which is when I liked him best so that pretty much explains that.
It's hard not to like Maria(especially being a Chicago sports fan like she is. There is no wrong choice of a favorite diva like they have now.
Thanks for taking the time in getting to know your favorite teams and players from the past and present.
Nice list Dave ... I admire that the pro teams are in one city, as opposed to ad-hoc fans who somehow randomly select teams (well, that are probably subject to change).
I'm a baseball guy first and a Cincinnati Reds lifer. Let's face it, I loved the 70s; especially Pete and Perez.
College football would be number two on my list. Ok, be a Bowling Green grad, I pull for the mid majors & follow the MAC. I've lived in Cincinnati for over 30 years and have adopted the UC Bearcats.
With that said, UC basketball was great to follow. Now that the program has been dismantled, rebuilding requires patience.
I used to follow the NFL when Cincinnati had a team, but pro football is more of an after thought these days.
With pro football in mind, the AFL was in full stride when I was growing up. I actually watched the AFL more than the NFL.
By the way ... once cable TV came to be, I loved watching Harry broadcast the Cubs. I'm proud to say that I got the chance to attend a game at Wrigley and more importantly, the opportunity to sing with Harry!
Good post!
Thanks Frank for taking the time to comment.
No one played the game of baseball harder or got more out of his ability than Pete Rose. I wasn't born until 1974 myself, but the Big Red Machine was a very dynamic bunch of guys.
I didn't know you were a Bowling Green grad, so thanks for sharing. I like the MAC, and they play real hard-nosed football up there.
Nothing wrong with liking the AFL. Out of all the stories I read, they had some of best offenses especially those Chargers, Oilers, etc. I watched an NFL Films on that one time, and I didn't realize how good some of those teams were.
I've only went by Wrigley Field when I visited, and haven't seen a game there yet but I will. I'm glad you got to sing along with Harry before his death.
Thanks for the comment!
